It's Brine Time!

SPEARS

The noblest of the pickle cuts! A Venetian merchant ship carving through the salty brine, the Pickle Boy style is hyper-fresh and clean. Minimizing distance, time and temperature, our cukes are processed as quickly as possible following hand-harvesting. They crunch by design!

CHIPS

The most snackable of the family, our chips always seem to disappear first. Dressing up a cheeseburger or a pimento cracker spread isn't their only trick! They also vanish in little stacks, straight from the jar.

RELISH

A friend told us that this changed his tuna salad game forever. We’ve been known to dose up hot dogs, grilled sausage and other picnic proteins along with veg-friendly sides like hummus
and fresh garden salads. The briny little cubes work wonders.

PICKLE BOY

Started as a challenge to make a perfect beach pickle.

There’s a particular way that the humidity weaves itself throughout the salt and sun on the North Carolina coast, and that first blast of air-conditioning after a beach session carries an extra gear of refreshing impact. We wanted to make a pickle – with a healthy nod to the style of new pickles found in family delis further north – that tasted something like that first wave of cold air feels.

“If you know, you know. It worked! We began beta-testing friends and family, and the strangest thing happened… the
kids loved them as much as their parents. Even the ones who don’t like anything!”

The pickiest two-year old of the bunch would give an appreciative half-nod and go in for another nibble,
often avoiding parental fingers in the jar. We added chips and relish to the lineup for burgers, dogs, salads and picnics, and there you have it.

We hope Pickle Boy can help create a new wave of flavor memories, at the beach and beyond!

FAQ

Are you in stores?

Not currently, but we’re at the Midtown Farmers’ Market every Saturday from 8AM-12PM. Please come by to check out our booth! https://midtownfarmers.com/

What is a Pickle Boy pickle?

According to one of our farmers (who provide the most important ingredient), “It’s not a pickle, it’s a souped-up cucumber.” Which is a mighty fine description for it! Inspired by deli-style “half-sours”, our spears are the essence of a crisp, fresh-picked cucumber with an infusion of garlic, spices and saltwater brine. No vinegar and no sugar. Just crunchy, salty goodness with a clean finish.

How long is the shelf life?

We’ve yet to come up with a one-sentence answer. It really depends on how much crunch vs. brine flavor you like in your pickles! Natural fermentation will start occurring in an open jar after 7-10 days and about 3-4 weeks for an unopened jar. Thus begins the process of a pickle going “full sour”, which is a different flavor journey altogether. A good thing to remember is that they never get crunchier in the jar.

Why are there bubbles in my jar?

Cucumbers are fruit with a tiny amount of sugar. Natural bacteria present within cucumber skins will become active with time (or more quickly at room temperature). CO₂ bubbles are a harmless byproduct of fermentation – let’s call it Champickle – but they’re an indication that the crunch is going to start disappearing. Eat ’em up!

Do your pickles have sugar, fat or gluten?

Verily, they do not! And yet, kids love them just the same. Go figure.

Where do you get your cucumbers?

We source the freshest possible outdoor-grown, U.S. cukes in the wintertime (mostly Florida and Georgia), but in early June, we get them from our friends in Nash and Johnston Counties, just east of Raleigh. North Carolina cucumbers continue to grow outdoors until the first frost, so we pack them fresh until then. However, even in the winter months, our goal is to be from field to jar within 48 hours.

Do you ship?

Before we go any further in this relationship, be aware that shipping is expensive and high-maintenance! The retail and shipping are often the same price (or more) as we ship overnight and 2-day AM only. All Pickle Boy products must be kept cool or refrigerated and require additional handling, ice packs, etc. Quotes are available with jar quantities and a ZIP code (minimum six-jar or $50 retail order, ex-shipping). Business addresses are much preferred.
